Should students have the right or privilege to be able to use laptops in the classroom? There are numerous reasons why laptops should not be permitted in the classroom, Laptops make it very difficult for students to be creative in classroom activates. The students may find themselves becoming distracted from the lectures due to MySpace and other entertaining computer programs. Laptops prove to be huge distractions to the teacher do to the loud clicking of keyboard keys and the blank stare on the students faces while they type their notes. There would also be a lot of parents that feel their children aren’t getting the right kind of interaction they should be.
Instructors try to make their lectures and labs as interactive as possible to help the students see the lecture in different ways. Instructors try to make the classroom more entertaining for everyone by adding different interactive and creative activities. While laptops are convenient there is not as much interaction between the instructors and students. Students are too focused on typing to pay attention and they don’t absorb enough information that is given by the instructor to help prepare them for quizzes and tests. Typing all the lecture notes slows students down due to making mistakes and having to back space if a mistake is made, this is why most teachers prefer students use a pencil and paper to speed up lecture.
A lot of instructors feel that laptops will prove to be a huge distraction to students due to games and the internet. The internet causes a huge distraction since it has such programs like MySpace, Face Book and Twitter.
