Education is like climbing a mountain; the classes are the obstacles you will encounter during the climb and your career is the top of the mountain, in order to do this, you will need the right experience. However, other students might have more an experience in this field and will end up at the top quicker than you. In some countries, students receive a better education than others. Evidence has shown that Japan’s educational system is better than the United States. One evidence would suggest that motivational differences play a huge role. Japanese students see ¬putting in much effort in their homework and study, in order to get good grades and pass their classes. In fact, author Susan D. Holloway, of Concepts of Ability and Effort in Japan and the United States, “approximately 2% of the respondents mentioned energy expenditure r effort, whereas only 1% mentioned ability.” (Holloway 329). This also works in an everyday life, Japanese students are taught to put in effort not just classes but for their daily lives. The author goes on saying that the Japanese student do have the ability to understand what is being taught and can go from there, however, they strictly emphasis on effort. On the other hand, the American students are quite opposite. They believe using their ability instead of putting in a lot of effort, in order achieve greatness. Other types of motivation is also the parents and/or instructors. Susan D. Holloway way of looking at the motivation in parents is the having the mother usually getting involved in her kid’s homework and even taking a side job in order to pay for the classes.
